To hold ourselves accountable, we reflect on our own actions and intentions before we critique others. In order to achieve our goals as an organization, and stay true to our mission, we must hold a mirror up to ourselves and to the organization without fear of unjustified consequences. Breakwater team members hold themselves and each other accountable. We focus on organic growth, and we carefully consider many sides before we make decisions. This belief in stability is not meant to prevent people from upending the status quo, rather it is a tool to help us navigate inevitable disruption without upending our success. This means moving deliberately, cautiously, and sometimes slowly. By recognizing our purpose and pursuing it via good business decisions, we can provide our people with stable careers and avoid radical swings that put the company or people’s livelihoods at risk. Breakwater’s purpose is to bring the best products and services to our patients. Many cannabis companies value flash and trends, or prioritize making a quick buck over sound business fundamentals. We cannot become complacent because as the market gets more crowded, we must maintain our edge in both products and services. We understand the importance of humility even when we are doing a great job. Our most important priorities are top quality cannabis and unmatched levels of service. Breakwater’s success is not a forgone conclusion. So, to help remind us where we came from and to provide a north star for our future, we’ve outlined some values, tenets, or “anchors” to hold us steady. With that reality, if we don’t explicitly define and focus on maintaining the core values that make Breakwater great, we risk losing them. That growth will mean more people, more physical distance between us, and different ways of operating. Thanks to the tireless efforts of many team members past and present, we are poised to experience tremendous growth in the coming years as the cannabis market matures in New Jersey.
